Kali is one of the most revered mother goddesses in Hinduism. In Hindi or Sanskrit, kali literally connotes the feminine gender form of the black color. It also means kala or time, referring to eternity. The dark form may seem stark in contrast to a mother goddess, but it denotes death and destruction of the evil forces that keep the goddess’s devotees or children protected and safely ensconced in her motherly care.
